Intro to Aerial Yoga Workshop (August)

aerial down dog 2.jpg

Join me for an Introduction to Aerial Yoga. In the workshop I will offer authentic yoga, with the support of a soft, aerial fabric hammock suspended from the ceiling — to explore, refine, and advance traditional yoga poses (asanas), both in the air and on the ground.  Strength, Mobility and Flexibility combine together in this revolutionary practice. Uniquely developed for beginners through all levels of experience. Escape the world outside suspended in a super strong, silky hammock that envelops your body like a protective cocoon.

In a small class size, you’ll explore new and traditional yoga asanas (yoga postures) with your body weight partially or fully supported. You’ll get a ‘yoga high’ by deepening your practice: experience physical release, refined strength, energetic flow, and heightened awareness of breath and body. Never more than a few feet off the ground, you’ll let go into gravity, be held in the hammock & leave blissed out!

Whether you are a long-time Yogi, or dreaming about trying Yoga for the first time, this is a fun and playful way to discover Yoga from a new perspective.

This Aerial Yoga class is not about flips & tricks (there’ll be a few if you wish to try, but it’s not an acrobatics class), instead it teaches deeper body awareness in multidimensional space.

Why is it worth trying aerial yoga? It will allow you to:

  • perform deeper and safer stretches

  • therapeutically traction the spine, which helps to alleviate back pain

  • strengthen all main muscle groups, especially the core and the upper body

  • build new neural pathways by challenging the body to learn complex movements

  • increase self-confidence and self-trust by stepping out of your comfort zone

  • tone the whole body

  • relax and unwind

What to bring: Your yoga mat, blanket & water. Please wear fitting clothes and not to eat for at least 1 hour before the class.

Suitable for: Uniquely developed for all levels of experience. No previous aerial, acrobatic, or Yoga experience is necessary. You need to be over 18 years old to attend.

Please be advised… Aerial Yoga is not recommended for individuals who experience any of the contraindications listed at https://www.ebbflowyoga.ie/aerialyoga

Investment: €25 (non refundable from 5 days before workshop commences)

Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs Mini Taster Course

YHLB taster photo.png

Lower back pain & discomfort is very common. Ireland’s 2014-2015 National Health Survey found that 19% of Irish people reported suffering from low back pain. This percentage means low back pain is the most commonly reported health condition by the Irish population - even ahead of high blood pressure, asthma, heart disease, depression, and diabetes. Back pain accounts for over 25pc of doctors visits.

Now there is an evidence-based and recommended cost effective, mind-body approach to improve back health & function. The ‘Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs’ programme, gently & progressively aims to help people get back to being more active. This 4 week mini-taster course is a prelude to the full 12 week evidence-based, fully-resourced and regulated yoga programme. The full 12 week programme (2 x 6 week courses) will commence in Autumn ‘19.

Specialised, small group, weekly classes taught over this mini taster course that motivate and teach you to improve your health for the long-term. This is the ideal entry-point yoga course for anyone wanting to know how to keep their lower back healthy and is also suitable for Yoga beginners. It helps people to gradually become more physically active and mentally relaxed and is designed to help not only low back pain, but other musculoskeletal and stress-influenced problems too.

What you can look forward to:

During this taster you will get an introduction to simple, gentle yoga, targeting back comfort, good posture, and improvement of your back health for now and the future.  Learn pain-relieving poses, postural awareness, mindfulness, breathing and relaxation techniques, and how to use standardised yoga sequences effectively and appropriately for yourself forever.

Does it really work?

The Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs is an evidence-based quality Yoga Programme proven effective for chronic low back pain by The University of York (Department of Health Sciences) research.

The University of York (Department of Health Sciences) ran one of the largest yoga research studies, funded by Arthritis Research UK.  Qualified Yoga Teachers and British Wheel of Yoga designed and ran specialist group classes in 5 UK locations.  The Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs programme was proved to be 30% better than usual care.  The positive results showed this yoga programme was better than manipulation by physiotherapists / chiropractors / osteopaths, exercise taught by physiotherapists, manipulation plus exercise, cognitive behavioural therapy, an educative book, and six individual Alexander Technique Lessons.

The Yoga for Healthy lower Backs programme works in the short and the long term.  Participants are encouraged to bring postural improvements and mental focus into their daily lives and are motivated to practise at home.  In the trial, improvements were still found a year after starting yoga, and 60% of the trials yoga group were still practising approx 30mins twice a week at home 9months after their 12 week course.

Suitable for:

  • People of all shapes and sizes, provided they can get up and down off the floor (perhaps with help of chair and wall)

  • People with history of back pain, prepared to commit to programme

  • Those with injuries/ illnesses preventing more strenuous forms of exercise/ activity

  • Ideally students will not attend Class 1 in an acute pain phase (your Teacher can consult with you before commencing)

  • Designed for beginners to yoga (who may be very unfit and inflexible), but also

  • Suitable for those with prior yoga experience

  • People want to help themselves for the present and the future

  • Those who have tried multiple approaches to ease lower back pain without success

Investment:

  • Mini-taster Course Investment: €35 (4 x 60 min small group classes – max 10 students)

  • Autumn 12 week programme investment: €TBC (12 x 75 min small group classes) + €60 for your YHLB Programme student manual, 4 track relaxation CDs, self- practice handouts. Individual 1-2-1 consultation(s).

In advance of this, Ebb & Flow Yoga is offering a 4 week mini taster course as part of Maeve’s training at a heavily discounted rate (once off offer only). Joint Health & Mobility Workshop (incl doTERRA Essential Oils)

Yoga Therapy 1.jpg

Free your Joints (Joint Health Yoga & Mobility Workshop with doTERRA Essential Oils)

Motion is lotion & rest is rust for the body! We were born to move, our health depends on it! Joint mobility is important tohelp prevent & alleviate (osteo)arthritis, to help improve injuries / aches or pains. Healthy joints allow us to continue to run, walk, lift weights, jump, play sports, work, lift our children and do other things we enjoy WITHOUT PAIN.

Join me for an excellent start to the day to awaken the whole body with a movement & Yoga Workshop focusing on mobility & joint health. On a more subtle level, in bringing your attention from head to toe and all through your body, we also awaken our ‘presence’ to be fully in our bodies and not just in our heads… thinking! Taking time for daily movement at the joints is a key element in maintaining healthy joints… and in turn, healthy muscles and bones.

The workshop will start with an introduction to doTERRA Essential Oils & how they can benefit your wellbeing & joint health. Then we will practice mindful movement with the introduction of Functional Range Conditioning techniques of CARs – where we will move each joint gently and systematically, checking in with it to discover how well can you control the movement and what this means for exercise selection and injury prevention.

We then will use PAILs and RAILs techniques to create functional mobility in the joints. These are designed to increase range of motion by combining strength and stretching. The latter section of the workshop will include Yin Yoga poses – longer, deeper, static exercises & stretches which have a calming effect on our bodies & minds. Yin is deliciously deep and mindful practice in which floor-based postures are held for 3-5 minutes in order to access a safe and positive ‘stress’ on the deep layers of connective tissue in the body. This allows the body to slowly stretch and unwind. As this practice emphasizes stillness, Yin prepares both the body and the mind for deeper experiences in meditation. Mindfulness & breathing techniques will be included throughout in the workshop. Bring your blanket & a cushion for ultimate restoration and relaxation.

doTERRA Essential Oil

·  A doTERRA Deep Blue Rub sample will be given to each participant and use will be demonstrated & encouraged during the workshop. Deep Blue is a soothing solution for sore muscles and joints with Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, Helichrysum, and Osmanthus work together to soothe and relax muscles and ease achy joints.

·  Its effects are deep and penetrating with sustained results. Once gently rubbed into the area of discomfort, Deep Blue’s cool therapeutic benefit will be felt almost immediately.

·  Deep Blue provides instant relief for the occasional discomfort of tired, sore, and worn-down muscles and joints and supports healthy circulation.

Who is it suitable for?

·         Seniors

·         Weightlifters

·         Arthritis Sufferers

·         Gym-goers

·         Desk based workers

·         Sports players / Athletes / Cyclists

·         Manual workers

Therapeutic Yoga

yoga therapy 3.png

Have you ever wanted to try Yoga but felt you “wouldn’t be able” or been to a class but felt like you couldn’t do the poses or keep up. Then this might be the class for you! Therapeutic Yoga or Yoga Therapy is the adaptation of Yoga practices for people with specific health and / or mobility challenges, conditions or needs.  This may be an illness, a temporary condition like an injury, or a chronic condition.

Therapeutic Yoga can play an important role in reducing stress and frustration that results from health issues and help increase positive feelings and well-being. Medical research shows that Yoga therapy is among the most effective complementary therapies for treating physical, psychological or emotional challenges we may face.

Yoga Therapy may be used to:

·   reduce symptoms of illness or injury

·   establish more functional breathing and movement patterns

·   reduce physical and mental suffering

·   improve quality of life

·   enhance positive coping strategies.

No previous experience of yoga is necessary.

What you can look forward to:

After an initial private consultation with you, I combine my knowledge of Yoga therapy practices with your self-knowledge, to formulate specific Yoga practices such as joint mobility exercises and both stretching & strengthening of muscles. Mindfulness and Breathing techniques to encourage better breathing, sleep and more relaxed minds are also included. Ebb & Flow Yoga's Bendy Birthday Brunch

Bendy Birthday Brunch Poster.png

WOW! Ebb & Flow Yoga is 2 years old the end of February!!! I would LOVE you to come and celebrate with me for a Bendy Birthday Brunch! :) Ebb & Flow Yoga would just be a name if it wasn't for all of you! We've grown steadily as a Yoga Community over the last 2 years, practicing together, creating friendships and great experiences. This Yoga Brunch is about celebrating some of the best experiences - Yoga, Food, Friendship & Trust.

I'd be delighted to lead you through a fun & funky flow, winding down with a guided relaxation and then it's Brunch-time (with a difference!). In the full spirit of Community I invite you to a food-share or pot-luck style experience; where everyone brings along some food / 1 dish to share with others. Cold food only please as we don't have any reheating facilities - so think salad, pasta, quiche, breads etc. OH and maybe cake! Can't have a birthday without cake! The only ask is that it's enough to share with a few Yogis & it doesn't need to 5*, easy, healthy & shareable is all :) Of course I'll bring along a few tasty treats too ;) Baile Mhuire has plates, cups & cutlery for us to use .

  • Investment: Yoga class is FREE to attend, I would ask that everyone please donate a MINIMUM of €7. All proceeds go too Baile Mhuire Day Care Centre.

  • What to bring: Your sweet self, yoga mat, blanket, water & whatever food you'd like to share & your donation please

  • Booking: Please register to attend the BBB on Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.ie/o/18812623957 . No charge to register, donations on the day please. Spaces limited so please book early & if anything changes please cancel your ticket so others can join in :)

Baile Mhuire: The centre offers day care to elderly people who need extra support and a social outlet for various reasons. It operates 4 days per week and up to 30 people attend daily. The Centre offers a bus service to bring people there and back each day if needed, their current bus is on its last legs (wheels!) at 15 years old so our donations will go towards fundraising for a new bus to ensure this wonderful service is continued for many years to come.

Thank you for an amazing 2 years together, I really do hope you can join me to celebrate together. Bring along friends & loved ones to celebrate.

Love, Maeve x

Intro to Aerial Yoga Workshop (February)

aerial down dog 2.jpg

Join me for an Introduction to Aerial Yoga. I’m delighted to host 1 aerial yoga workshop per month for Jan, Feb & March.

Please be advised… Aerial Yoga is not recommended for individuals who experience any of the contraindications listed below.

Yin Yoga & Sound Bath Brunch

Yin Yoga & Sound Bath Healing Brunch Event

Join Maeve Ferris of Ebb & Flow Yoga & Tomas O’Sullivan (Sound Healer) for a 1 hour 30 minute Yin Yoga & Sound Bath Immersion, followed by a delicious Brunch in the luxurious surroundings of The Ashe Hotel. It’s all about looking after yourself & switching off from the outside world for a blissful morning with likeminded people.

Unwind with the special combination of Yin Yoga & the live healing sound vibrations from crystal singing bowls and other glorious sounds to relax and heal your whole body.

Yin Yoga deliciously deep and mindful practice in which floor-based postures are held for 3-5 minutes in order to access a safe and positive ‘stress’ on the deep layers of connective tissue in the body. This allows the body to slowly stretch and unwind, giving you time to really tune into your body & mind. As this practice emphasizes stillness and silence, Yin Yoga prepares both the body and the mind for deeper experiences in meditation. Bring your blanket & a cushion for ultimate restoration and relaxation.

During your Yin Yoga you will also experience a Sound Bath. It is an immersion in beautiful sounds and vibrations that are healing for your body, mind and spirit.   A Sound Bath is a deeply relaxing, meditative experience which can take you on a journey of deep relaxation, healing and self-discovery.

During the Sound Bath you will experience deep relaxation and a profound sense of peace and well-being. Yin Yoga & Sound Bath immersions help reduce stress & anxiety, aid sleep & help shift energy & thoughts that no longer serve you. As a sound healer, Tomas will introduce you to the healing power of Crystal Singing Bowls, Tibetan Bowls,Ocean Drum, Tinchas,Chimes & pipes. Sound has profound effects on our nervous system – helping to turn on our parasympathetic nervous system which is our relaxation response. The healing frequencies and vibrations will wash away all your stress, tension, and cares.

Everything in the Universe, including our body, is composed of vibrations. Every organ and every cell in our body vibrates at a particular frequency. The tones produced by crystal bowls are not just heard by the ear. You feel them in your body, with certain tones affecting your energy centres (chakras) for healing, balancing and meditation

Yoga for Deep Sleep

yoga nidra.jpg

Having a hard time falling asleep? Waking in the middle of the night? Not waking rested?

Research on more than 13,000 people by Laya Healthcare has revealed almost 80% of people are sleep deprived. When you think about it though, you were born knowing how to sleep deeply. Over time stress and life pulls us off balance and negatively impacts our sleep at night and our joy during the day. Luckily there’s hope: sleep-science + yoga-wisdom.

Learning how to switch off our minds so that our bodies can sleep and recharge is the most natural thing in the world - and often the most difficult. Our minds race, our bellies churn and we can't stop looking at the clock. I know how distressing it can be -  I've also found the best practices for restful sleep that leaves us refreshed and ready to face the day. I’ve taken best from Yoga and blended it with the most restful therapeutic approaches to give you an experience that will really enhance your sleeping hours.  No prior Yoga experience required. Here's what you can look forward to:

Bed-time Yoga - a deeply restful session that will soothe, calm and nourish
Embodied Mindfulness -  teaching you what to do when your mind just won't stop
Deep Breathing -  for the nights you are wired to the moon
Untying the Knots -  'ironing' out the deep tensions of the shoulder, back and neck using massage balls to get into the nooks and crannies

Yoga Nidra - A guided relaxation practice that leads you to a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed. Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.

We wrap up with a soothing cup of camomile herbal tea.

  • What to bring: Your yoga mat, a cozy blanket, pillow / cushion & water. I will supply yoga props, bolster & tea 😊

  • Suitable for: Anyone over 17 years old. No prior Yoga experience required. If you are pregnant / have any injuries, please do get in touch in advance

  • Investment: €25 (payment required in advance due to limited spaces)

  • Booking: Essential! Contact Maeve 087-3679132 to book

Aerial yoga combines traditional yoga principles with a low hanging soft hammock to explore alignment, release chronic tension and allow for deep relaxation.

Experience this soft support in deep and relaxing stretches intended to open and restore the body in longer 3 - 5 minute holds.

Benefits of Yoga & Mindfulness for Teens:

Learn movement & mindful breathing techniques with a friendly & experienced teacher. Switch off from the activity focused life outside. Take a time out and develop your sense of self and self-awareness.

Focus & concentration become easier as you learn tools to help deal with stress or exam pressures and techniques for relaxation. Overall, you'll feel calmer with more energy after chilling out on your mat. With all the changes both physical & emotional during these years, Yoga teaches us how to go with the flow!

Mindfulness based yoga has proven to be effective at helping reduce stress & anxiety, helping young adults to feel calmer. Other proven benefits of yoga include:

  1. Increased energy levels & improve sleep patterns

  2. Helps improve self-esteem & good self-awareness

  3. Improves physical activity levels & gain strength & flexibility

  4. Supports students to practice balance, coordination & focus for exams

  5. Compliments other sporting activities (I have experience teaching at youth & senior GAA Team levels)

About your Teacher:

I am a Tralee local, a fully insured & certified Vinyasa, Yin Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher. I have experience teaching Yoga to Teens & young adults in my weekly mainstream classes and have had extremely positive feedback from parents and teenagers.
